Cocaine is extracted from the leaves of the cocaine smoke (erythroxylum coca). It thrives mainly on the Andes of Colombia, Bolivia and Peru at a height of 600 to 1000 meters. The leaves contain about one percent of the alkaloids, known as cocaine.
In the Andes and the Amazon region, Coca has remained a very important place in popular medicine. It is used in all kinds of pain, neuralgia, rheumatism, colds, flu, digestive disorders, constipation, colic, tainted stomach, high altitude sickness, fatigue, weakness and ease of birth.
Coca is used in the case of sugar, as an appetite suppressant, as a tonic (tonifying agent) and for stabilizing the gastrointestinal tract e.g. in diarrhea. Coca is often used for bronchitis, cancer, asthma and cough.
In most cases it is a psychological and physical strengthening effect, a pain-inhibitory effect, an appetite suppressant and a regulating effect on the blood glucose level.
